A family history
Proudly fabricating sculptures for 5 generations
The HALIGON’s family studios were established around 1875. From generation to generation, the passion of sculpting was inherited. The Haligons have participated in the construction of the Statue of Liberty by Bartholdi in the1880’s for New York City. The ancestor of the Haligon family:
Louis Haligon began his career as a sculptor and then started the reproduction of sculpture for his colleagues using the pantograph newly developed by 2 engineers Sauvage and Colas.
During his career he worked with Sculptors like Bartholdi, Carrier-Beleuse, Rodin, ... He also worked with several American artists coming to Paris looking for the expertise of French Artisans (Davidson, Haseltine,...). Louis Haligon participated in the enlargement of the Statue of Liberty. There are very few pictures or records of the early stage of the construction. The only memory left today is picture of Louis in front of another enlargement he did for Bartholdi.
In 1889, The USA gifted France with a reproduction at a quarter of the size of Statue of Liberty. It is placed in Paris on Ile des Cignes. In the late 1980’s, the city of Paris contacted Olivier Haligon to make a mold of the head of the Statue, that had been damaged over time. Olivier obtained the right to make a reproduction of it. This is why we can offer the very unique piece of history.
From the earliest age, Olivier Haligon was immersed in the world of art and continues to perpetuate the master craftsmanship passed down five generations. A Master degree of engineering in mathematics further prepared Olivier Haligon to work in his family studio realizing some of the most famous sculptures of our time, from small editions to monumental pieces.
Olivier opened his studio in Miami, FL, in 1998 and has achieved a strong international reputation among the Art world. Since 2010, Caroline Haligon is working alongside her father to perpetuate the long lasting family tradition and craftmanship.
Haligon Fine Art Studio has worked with some of the most renowned contemporary artists, architects and designers, such as Carpeaux, Bartholdi, Rodin, Picasso, Giacometti, Miro, J. Dubuffet, Cesar, Botero, Arman, R. Mason, Niki de Saint Phalle, J.P. Raynaud, Herve Di Rosa, R. Barrios, M. Wanders,...
